Important Characteristics

Powerful and proven database technology: Web Research network collections are based on Microsoft SQL Server database system. You can use MS SQL Server 2000 or 2005. The free MSDE / Express edition is also supported.

Access security: Web Research Server Manager has an integrated user and rights administration. You can specify which users are allowed to access server collections and which permissions they have.

Multi-user capability: Multiple users can read or write documents in server collections at the same time. The user administration is based on Windows accounts and groups or you can define own user profiles.

Network capability:
Use server collections anywhere in your local LAN or from the Internet.
 

Scalability: Upon your needs, you can use several SQL Servers for best performance, stability, and security.

Network archives are created and administered with Web Research Server Manager, a snap-in for the Microsoft Management Console.

Web Research Server Manager is available after installing Web Research Network Add-on.

• Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005:
  - Desktop Engine (MSDE), free (for maximum 5 users)
  - Standard Edition
  - Enterprise Edition
   
• Operating system: Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, or NT 4.0 Server
   
• Network connection
   
• Sufficient hard disk space on the SQL Server computer to store the server databases
